El famoso puente, que ahora es un símbolo de la región, fue construido entre el 20 de marzo y el 27 de julio de 1879 por el cantero Jean-Pierre Prommenschenkel de Christnach en un plazo de cuatro meses. En esa época, el puente se construyó con cal de vapor y arenisca, y todavía se encuentra como se construyó entonces. La barandilla de madera se añadió un poco más tarde y a lo largo de los años ha sido renovada varias veces.
