El característico núcleo rural de Esch-sur-Sûre está marcado por una ruina de castillo. Esta tiene su origen en el año 927 y conoció una actividad vibrante hasta la Revolución Francesa. Los primeros caballeros famosos de la dinastía Esch fueron los hermanos Heinrich I y Godfried I, quienes se destacaron durante la primera cruzada al lado de Godfried de Bouillon. Los posteriores señores de Esch-sur-Sûre pertenecían a los consejeros más influyentes de los condes de Luxemburgo. Hoy en día, el complejo es un refugio para diferentes tipos de animales y plantas. El terreno alrededor de Bergfried y Lochturm es de acceso libre para caminantes y visitantes. Es una subida bastante difícil, pero una vez que esté arriba, la vista realmente vale la pena.
