The distinctive village center of Esch-sur-Sûre is characterized by a castle ruin. This dates back to the year 927 and experienced vibrant activity until the French Revolution. The first famous knights of the Esch family were brothers Heinrich I and Godfried I, who distinguished themselves alongside Godfried of Bouillon during the First Crusade. The later lords of Esch-sur-Sûre were among the most influential advisors to the counts of Luxembourg. Today, the complex is a refuge for various types of animals and plants. The area around Bergfried and Lochturm is freely accessible to walkers and visitors. It is quite a challenging climb, but once you reach the top, the view is truly worth it.
