En la plaza donde ahora se encuentra la Oldehove, había alrededor del año 1100 una pequeña iglesia de piedra tufácea, que en el siglo XIII sería reemplazada por una iglesia más grande, construida con ladrillos de monasterio rojos. Sin embargo, no se avanzó más allá de la construcción de los cimientos.
