Halsteren es una aldea en el municipio de Bergen op Zoom, en el Brabante Septentrional. Tiene 12,020 habitantes (1 de enero de 2010).
Halsteren se encuentra en el Brabantse Wal, lo que provoca que dentro de la aldea se puedan observar diferencias de altura de hasta 10 metros.
El nombre Halsteren se deriva de Halstert, que se compone de Halha, que significa saliente de meseta, y stert, que significa cola, dada la forma alargada de la saliente. Otra teoría se remonta al nombre en dialecto: Altere. Este provendría del latín y sería una corrupción de "Alta Terra", Tierra Alta, y se referiría a la ubicación en el Brabantse Wal.
Halsteren probablemente surgió como una aldea de extracción de turba.
En 1628 se construyeron varias fortificaciones al este de Halsteren, formando parte de la Línea de Agua de Brabante Oeste.
