Stavoren es una ciudad en el municipio de Súdwest-Fryslân, en la provincia holandesa de Frisia. La ciudad es una de las once ciudades frisias y fue la primera ciudad holandesa en obtener derechos de ciudad. Stavoren es una antigua ciudad hanseática y durante la alta Edad Media fue un importante puerto comercial. Una famosa leyenda que tiene lugar en la ciudad es la de Het Vrouwtje van Stavoren, que da una explicación sobre el declive como importante ciudad comercial hacia el final de la Edad Media, cuando la ciudad sufría cada vez más por la competencia con Ámsterdam y Amberes.
