Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel) es un lugar en el municipio de Zuidplas en la orilla occidental del Hollandsche IJssel, aproximadamente a diez kilómetros al noreste de Rotterdam. Hasta el 1 de enero de 2010, era un municipio independiente en la provincia de Zuid-Holland y contaba con 21,648 habitantes. En esta área se encuentra el punto más bajo de los Países Bajos, a 6,76 metros debajo del nivel del mar cerca del estanque para patos en la Derde Tochtweg.
