Los primeros años de Dudok
El famoso arquitecto Willem Dudok fue maestro de obras en esta fortaleza, al mismo tiempo que en el Fort aan de Drecht y el Fort Uithoorn.
Esta fortaleza podía albergar de 250 a 300 soldados que tenían que sobrevivir allí durante algunos meses hasta un año. La fortaleza funcionaba como un sistema autosuficiente.
El agua de lluvia del techo se almacenaba en cisternas y se trataba a través de una planta de purificación para hacerla apta para el consumo. A través de los depósitos de agua potable que colgaban del techo, los soldados tenían agua corriente en la cocina, las salas de lavado y en los inodoros. ¡Para esa época, un lujo sin precedentes! En casa, el agua generalmente provenía del pozo.
