El Nederrijn es el brazo derecho de los dos grandes brazos del Rin en los Países Bajos. El brazo izquierdo es el Waal, que solo en el último milenio ha llevado grandes cantidades de agua del Rin hacia el actual delta del Rin-Maas y se ha convertido en el principal desagüe del Rin. El Nederrijn era el Rin original que desembocaba en el mar del Norte en Katwijk. Hoy en día, en su parte baja, después de la bifurcación del Lek que fluye hacia el delta del Rin-Maas, apenas fluye agua.
