El Monumento Nassau se erigió en recuerdo de la relación de 500 años (1904) entre Breda y la casa de Orange-Nassau. En 1404, Engelbrecht I de Nassau-Dillenburg fue honrado como señor de Breda.
La estatua fue realizada en forma de un castillo y coronada con un león. Además de los nombres y escudos de la familia de Engelbrecht y su esposa Johanna de Polanen, en el monumento aparecen los escudos de los municipios de la Baronía de Breda.
El monumento fue inaugurado el 3 de julio de 1905 por la reina Wilhelmina.
