En los archivos, el nombre 'Eyckholt' se menciona por primera vez alrededor de 1385. El castillo es entonces propiedad de la familia Van der Lynden van den Eyckholt. 'Holt' es una palabra diferente para bosque. Por lo tanto, el castillo debió haber estado ubicado cerca de un bosque. En el siglo XVIII, el castillo cayó lentamente en ruinas.
