Dans les archives, le nom 'Eyckholt' est mentionné pour la première fois vers 1385. Le château appartient alors à la famille Van der Lynden van den Eyckholt. Holt est un autre mot pour désigner une forêt. Le château devait donc se trouver autrefois près d'une forêt. Au 18ème siècle, le château est progressivement tombé en ruine. Aujourd'hui, seules les restes d'un mur de défense circulaire et le coin d'une tour sont encore visibles. Les murs très épais trahissent l'origine médiévale. L'emplacement appartient aujourd'hui à Natuurmonumenten. Les ruines ont été restaurées avec retenue, en raison du fait que Natuurmonumenten souhaite préserver l'aspect romantique.
