ÁREA NATURAL UTOPÍA
En el lado este de Texel se encuentra Utopía, una hermosa zona de aves protegida por diques. Aquí anidan las gaviotas y limícolas en las playas de conchas. Desde el dique de los marismas se tiene buena vista de las aves en la zona de los meandros.
Durante las mareas vivas o tormentosas, las aves huyen de las marismas De Schorren y del Mar de Frisia hacia un lugar seguro detrás del dique. En Utopía pueden esperar tranquilos hasta que las marismas y los bancos de arena vuelvan a estar secos. Debido al aumento del nivel del mar, estos lugares de escape son muy necesarios. Natuurmonumenten ha transformado en 2010 y 2011 los pastizales en una zona de meandros con orillas fangosas y muchos bancos de conchas.
