Alguna vez, Esbeek estuvo conectado con el mundo exterior por un tranvía de vapor. Un nombre como "Oude Trambaan" en la zona rural es una prueba viva de ello. Esta línea provenía de Bélgica y pasaba por Esbeek, Hilvarenbeek y Goirle hasta Tilburg. Hannes Verhoeven creó una escultura en la que se representa esta conexión. Es posible que también se inspirara en el factor tiempo, el niño en su ropa contemporánea de la mano de sus padres que todavía visten según la moda de los años treinta.
