Autrefois, Esbeek était relié au monde extérieur par un tram à vapeur. Un nom comme "Oude Trambaan" dans la zone rurale en est la preuve vivante. Cette ligne reliait la Belgique à Esbeek, Hilvarenbeek et Goirle jusqu'à Tilburg. Hannes Verhoeven a créé une sculpture représentant cette connexion. Il a peut-être également été inspiré par le facteur temps, l'enfant en vêtements contemporains tenant la main de ses parents qui s'habillent encore selon la mode des années trente.
