El Buurserzand, con un área de aproximadamente 455 ha, es propiedad de Natuurmonumenten. Es un remanente de una vasta turbera 'húmeda'. En el pasado, esta turbera formaba una parte importante del paisaje de esdorpen, del cual aún encontramos restos alrededor del pueblo de Buurse y en el valle del Buurserbeek.
El Buurserzand es un variado páramo abierto con pantanos, praderas floridas y hermosos bosques de hojas caducas. A través de los caminos peatonales y ciclistas de acceso libre, también encontrarás arenas movibles, arbustos de enebro, pantanos y bosques de roble y abeto más secos en esta vegetación de turbera húmeda más grande de los Países Bajos.
