Il Buurserzand, con un'area di circa 455 ha, è di proprietà di Natuurmonumenten. È un residuo di una vasta brughiera 'umida'. In passato, questa brughiera costituiva una parte importante del paesaggio degli esdorpen, di cui troviamo ancora i resti attorno al villaggio di Buurse e nella valle del Buurserbeek.
Il Buurserzand è una brughiera aperta varia, con zone paludose, prati fioriti e bellissimi boschi decidui. Attraverso i sentieri pedonali e ciclabili liberamente accessibili troverai anche sabbie mobili, cespugli di ginepro, zone paludose e boschi di querce e betulle più asciutti in questa più grande vegetazione di brughiera umida nei Paesi Bassi.
