Oude-Tonge ha sufrido gravemente por la inundación de 1953. En la noche del 31 de enero al 1 de febrero, 305 personas perdieron la vida aquí.
Después del desastre de la inundación, la Cruz Roja sueca donó varias casas de madera. Estas casas fueron colocadas en su momento en la calle Julianastraat en Oude-Tonge.
