La meseta de Margraten es parte de la región de Mergelland y el Heuvelland en el sur de Limburgo neerlandés. El área se utiliza como zona agrícola y se encuentra a una altura promedio de aproximadamente 140 m. En el lado oeste, el área está delimitada por el valle del Mosa, que se encuentra aproximadamente 100 m más bajo, y al sur por el Noordal, un valle que desciende de este a oeste y que en parte no contiene un río, en el cual se encuentra el pueblo de Noorbeek. Las empinadas transiciones hacia estos valles están cubiertas de bosques de ladera únicos, como el Savelsbos y el Eijsderbos. Más hacia el norte, en la pendiente que desciende hacia el valle del Mosa, se encuentra la reserva natural de Bemelerberg, donde hay praderas calcáreas. En Bemelen se encuentra una reserva para hámsteres, donde habita el lobo de los campos.
