Hardenbroek se menciona por primera vez en 1382. En 1536 apareció la primera lista de ciudades caballerescas. En esta se incluye Hardenbroek. La casa estaba entonces habitada por Joost van Hardenbroek. En 1662 murió Pieter van Hardenbroek, quien no tenía hijos. Legó la casa a su primo Hendrik Gijsbert van Hardenbroek. Este la vendió en 1684. En 1733, Willem Kerckrinck alquiló la casa. Más tarde la compró y gastó mucho dinero en una remodelación a fondo. Cuando su viuda volvió a casarse, Hardenbroek fue subastado públicamente. El comprador fue Jan Adolf van Hardenbroek, señor de Hardenbroek, Lockhorst, Bergestein, 's-Heeraartsberg, Bergambacht y Ammerstol. Así, la casa volvió a la familia Van Hardenbroek. Entre 1789 y 1793 se erigió una nueva fachada trasera, posiblemente según el diseño del arquitecto de Ámsterdam Jacob Otten Husly.
