El único área natural sin coches de Gerendal, entre IJzeren y Schin op Geul, es conocida entre otras cosas por las numerosas especies de orquídeas que se pueden encontrar allí. En los meses de mayo y junio, se pueden admirar en el jardín de la casa del guardabosques. En el área se puede encontrar un rebaño de ovejas que pastan en los pastizales de calcio. Unos cientos de metros más allá de la casa del guardabosques hay una salida a la izquierda donde un camino forestal de 300 metros, la Gerende Berg, conduce a la meseta más alta de Margraten y la Keutenberg. Esta pendiente tiene un porcentaje de inclinación del 10,7%.
