El jardín, que tiene su origen en el siglo XVI, toma su nombre de la vid que crecía en el jardín del monasterio que una vez estuvo aquí. El valor histórico del jardín se subraya por algunos árboles que tienen más de 100 años. En 1888, el paisajista de Haarlem J.D. Zocher diseñó la disposición actual del jardín, lo que es especialmente visible en la plantación de esa época.
