Finnmark era una provincia de Noruega con 75 605 habitantes según el censo de 2015.[1] Su capital era Vadsø. Era fronteriza con la provincia de Troms, con Finlandia , y Rusia . Tiene una superficie de 48 649 km². Desde el 1 de enero de 2020, forma parte de la Provincia de Troms y Finnmark.
El nombre en nórdico antiguo era Finnmǫrk. El primer elemento es finn , el nombre nórdico para el pueblo sami. El último elemento es mǫrk que significa "bosque" o "frontera". En tiempos de los nórdicos el nombre se refería a los lugares donde la gente sami vivía .
