Le territoire de la commune a une superficie de 35,51 km² et se situe dans le nord-ouest de la Basse-Autriche, dans l'ouest du Waldviertel, dans le district administratif de Gmünd. Une frontière nationale longue de 13,5 km délimite la partie nord-ouest de la commune avec la République tchèque. Cette frontière traverse presque exclusivement des zones de forêt. 68,33 % de la superficie de la commune est boisée.
