Vorderhornbach est situé avec Hinterhornbach dans la vallée de Hornbach, une vallée latérale de la vallée du Lech. Vorderhornbach se trouve sur le cône d’éboulis de Hornbach. Le village est axé sur l’agriculture. Une part importante de la population active travaille en dehors des limites de la commune.
Le village a été mentionné pour la première fois en 1218. Contrairement à Hinterhornbach, qui relevait de la juridiction d'Ehrenberg, Vorderhornbach relevait de celle d'Aschau, ce qui a entraîné un lien relativement faible avec les autres localités de la vallée du Lech.
