Mogersdorf occupe une place célèbre dans l'histoire autrichienne car c'est ici que Raimondo Montecuccoli a anéanti une armée de 60 000/90 000 hommes de l'Empire ottoman en 1664 lors de sa tentative de traverser la rivière Raab vers l'ouest en direction de la Styrie. Cette bataille de Mogersdorf a été commémorée par une chapelle sur la colline voisine du Schlößlberg. Tombée en ruines, elle a été remplacée par un nouvel édifice, avec une grande croix chrétienne dépouillée à ses côtés, en 1964.
