La statue du The Brooding Soldier (le soldat qui cogite) ou plus communément appelée Den Canadien, se trouve à un endroit que l’on appelait durant la guerre Vancouver Corner. Ici, l’armée canadienne a entre autres combattu afin de récupérer du terrain après la première attaque au gaz du 22 avril 1915. La statue a été inaugurée en 1922 et est de Frederick Chapman Clemeshaw. Le soldat met ses mains sur la crosse du fusil dont le canon pointe vers le bas : « arms reversed ». Cette position évoque du respect et un sentiment de deuil pour les tués depuis au moins le 16ième siècle.
