Schoten est une commune néerlandophone de Belgique située en Région flamande dans la province d'Anvers. La commune compte plus de 33 000 habitants, et est une ville verte située à 10 km du centre-ville d'Anvers.Mentionnée dès le IXe siècle sous la forme Scote, puis au XIIe siècle Scotes. Nom probablement issu de l'ancien germanique skauti, selon Maurits Gysseling, signifiant déclivité, hauteur. Homonymie avec Schoten ; Schoos ; Écos et Écots ainsi qu'Écot .
