Que Bouvignes était un rival de Dinant est symbolisé dans la légende suivante.
En 1466, les habitants de Dinant furent jetés par deux dans la Meuse comme mesure punitive par Charles le Téméraire, le duc de Bourgogne. Cela se produisit après qu'il eut conquis la ville et voulu se venger des insultes qu'il avait subies. Environ 800 citoyens furent attachés par deux et poussés dans la Meuse.
Quand ceux-ci tentèrent de remonter sur les rives près de Bouvignes, les habitants de Bouvignes les repoussèrent à nouveau dans la Meuse.
