L'hôpital Saint-André est un hôpital de taille moyenne loco-régional, situé en périphérie (le long de la Ringlaan) du centre de Tielt dans la province de Flandre-Occidentale. L'arrondissement de Tielt compte environ 88 192 habitants.
La zone de soins ou hinterland s'étend sur 10 communes. Cela permet à l'hôpital de servir une population d'environ 105 000 habitants, étant donné que de nombreux patients viennent également de la Flandre-Orientale, par exemple 20 à 25 % d'Aalter (selon les dernières données disponibles du Ministère de la Santé publique).
L'hôpital est situé dans une région rurale avec la plus basse infrastructure hospitalière (pas de surcapacité) de toute la province de Flandre-Occidentale, la plus faible consommation spécialisée et des soins de santé primaires actifs.
