La seigneurie de Sint-Pauwels faisait partie des possessions directes des comtes de Flandre.
De 1551 à 1594, Sint-Pauwels avait son propre collège. Par la suite, il a été rattaché à Kemzeke et Stekene jusqu'au début du XVIIe siècle. Ensuite, il est resté uni à Kemzeke jusqu'à la fin du XVIIIe siècle. Il convient de mentionner l'église Saint-Paul avec son chœur et son clocher datant de 1494. Deux autels latéraux du XVIIe siècle, un banc de communion et un lambris sont de style Louis XIV. L'église possède un calvaire peint de L. De Heere.
