En 1258, les béguines reçurent la permission de l'évêque de Cambrai de construire une chapelle et en 1259 de fonder une paroisse. Vers 1261-1267, donation par la duchesse de Brabant Aleydis de Bourgogne d'une "ancienne salle d'une maison pour faire une église ou chapelle", probablement au même endroit que l'église actuelle.
