Dans cette forêt d'une superficie de (4,3 ha) se trouvait autrefois l'une des plus importantes colonies de hérons de Belgique. Le domaine est particulièrement précieux en tant que site de nidification pour le héron cendré et constitue également une belle zone de promenade. Cependant, la création d'un fossé de drainage à travers le domaine a perturbé l'hydrologie. La population de hérons a chuté de 355 nids en 1950 à 50 nids en 1986. Des dizaines de couples nichent encore aujourd'hui et l'on espère à l'avenir retrouver un nombre plus important. »»»
