Nous roulons le long du lit d'origine de la Lieve. Ce canal est un paradis pour les poissons carnassiers, en particulier les brochets, et par conséquent aussi pour les hérons. Il n'est pas surprenant que le village voisin de Vinderhoute figure l'héron sur son blason. Nous pédalons sur le chemin de halage le long duquel les bateaux de halage chargés de marchandises étaient tirés vers l'intérieur des terres par des hommes ou des chevaux jusqu'au début du 20ème siècle.
