En 1914, le pont a été détruit par l'armée belge en retraite, mais a été ensuite restauré. Il a également été détruit pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale et restauré par la suite. À la demande des cercles historiques de Haacht et de Keerbergen, le pont a été classé monument le 16 mars 1998. Le nouveau pont Oude Hans est désormais uniquement accessible aux cyclistes et aux piétons.
