L’église néogothique Saint-Antoine-Ermite de Pepinster, consacrée en 1899, est l’oeuvre de l’abbé esthète Sylvain Balau et de l’architecte Clément Léonard. Elle fait référence au gothique du XIIIe siècle dit « primaire ». L’édifice, d’une grande sobriété à l’extérieur, présente un riche décor intérieur (croix triomphale, peinture Le couronnement de la Vierge, etc., oeuvre des meilleurs ateliers et artistes belges de l’époque. Il est également remarquable par sa voûte en berceau brisé pour laquelle Léonard a utilisé le « système Francart », composé de poutrelles métalliques dans lesquelles sont enchâssés des bardeaux de terre cuite peints.
