Karel van de Woestijne est né le 10 mars 1878 à la Sint-Lievensstraat 348, maintenant Sint-Lievenspoortstraat 264, "une large rue déserte et pâle" ("Paidia"). Il était l'aîné des quatre fils de l'orfèvre Alexander Joannes et Antigona Sielbo.
Lors de la Foire du Livre 1960, Miel Kersten a révélé pour les Écrivains catholiques de Flandre orientale, le dimanche 28 mars, une plaque commémorative en ardoise, sculptée par Volckaert de Gand : "Dans cette maison est né le poète Karel van de Woestijne le 10-3-1878."
