Karel van de Woestijne werd geboren op 10 maart 1878 in de Sint-Lievensstraat 348, nu Sint-Lievenspoortstraat 264, "een breede, ledige, bleke straat" ("Paidia"). Hij was de oudste van de vier zoons van koperslager Alexander Joannes en Antigona Sielbo.
Tijdens de Boekenbeurs 1960 onthulde Miel Kersten voor de Katholieke Oostvlaamse Schrijvers op zondag 28 maart een arduinen gedenksteen, gebeiteld door Volckaert uit Gent: "In dit huis werd de dichter Karel van de Woestijne geboren op 10-3-1878."
