Description

Ce qu’on appelle le « Pont du coin de l’eau », connu du roman « De teleurgang van den waterhoek » de Stijn Streuvels. Pont en arc de fer de type Vierendeel sur l’Escaut, relie Ruien à Avelgem (Flandre occidentale) pour remplacer l’ancien ferry. Le premier pont de l’Escaut ici de 1903-04 a également été la première application de la poutre en treillis sans diagonale dans la construction de ponts conçue par A. Vierendeel, alors ingénieur-directeur en chef du service technique provincial de Flandre occidentale, inauguré en 1906, dynamité par les Allemands en 1918 et remplacé par un nouveau pont en 1927, à son tour dynamité en 1940 et remplacé par le pont actuel, également un pont Vierendeel avec des poutres en arc de fer.
