Het schiereiland Kromme Hoek ontstond na het aanleggen van een vlotkom op het eind van de 19de eeuw. De kom fungeerde tot kort na de Tweede Wereldoorlog als vissershaven. Na vernieling door de Duitsers werd de sluis niet meer hersteld. De Koninklijke Yacht Club van Nieuwpoort (KYCN), gesticht in 1932, vestigde in 1972 zijn clubhuis op het schiereiland Kromme Hoek. Door een recente rechttrekking van de westelijke oever ontstond ruimte voor circa 70 bijkomende vaartuigen. Op het schiereiland bevindt zich het kunstwerk 'le vent souffle ou il veut' van Daniël Buren
