Le village est situé à la limite méridionale de la Province de Liège, sur la rive droite de l'Ourthe, limite naturelle avec la Province du Luxembourg. Accès: sorties autoroute 46 ou 48, nationale 86 depuis Aywaille, nationale 4 depuis Marche. Avant la fusion de 1977, Sy formait une commune à part entière, rattachée depuis 1807 à celle de Vieuxville. Surnommé la «Petite Suisse Belge», le village a pour atouts sa situation géographique sur la rive droite de l’Ourthe, la présence de rochers d’escalade, une infrastructure touristique accueilllante, un réseau de promenades balisées et sa proximité aux ruines du château fort de Logne. Sy a été célébré à travers de nombreux paysages réalisés par le peintre postimpressionniste liégeois Richard HEINTZ qui y résida et y mourut en 1929.
