Lors de la construction du nouveau bâtiment, l’école a dû être logée ailleurs. À cette fin, la sucrerie de Tirlemont avait cédé les locaux de son « Patronaat » dans la Beaudouinstraat. Le 18 novembre 1953, les nouveaux bâtiments de l’Athénée sont inaugurés en présence du ministre de l’Éducation nationale, M. Harmel. Le nouvel Athénée royal de Tirlemont, forme un ensemble impressionnant de bâtiments. La longueur de la façade, donnant sur la rue Gilain, n’est pas inférieure à 98,35 mètres. L’Athénée royal de Tirlemont, den athenaï, a une riche histoire de près de cent ans à son actif. En 2020, nous voulons célébrer cela de manière appropriée.
