Les gravières de Chertal sont localisées au bord de la Meuse, à quelques kilomètres en aval de Liège. Faisant partie de la propriété de l'usine métallurgique d'ArcelorMittal, elles sont constituées de trois plans d'eau entourés de boisements spontanés (saulaies notamment) et de zones de friches. Le site renferme plusieurs espèces végétales rares comme la sagittaire (Sagittaria sagittifolia), mais c'est surtout sur le plan ornithologique que son intérêt ressort.
