Caractéristique du paysage de la Calestienne, le site est localisé au nord de Han-sur-Lesse, en rive droite de la Lomme. Inclus dans le "parc national de Lesse-et-Lomme" créé en 1954 sous l'égide de l'association Ardenne et Gaume, il englobe le massif calcaire renfermant également la grotte d'Eprave, site ayant connu jadis un tourisme intense. Cette colline culminant à 200 m d'altitude est couverte pour l'essentiel par une végétation forestière constituée notamment de chênaie-charmaie calcicole. Une falaise limite le site au nord-est, au niveau du méandre de la Lomme. L'ensemble est sillonné par de nombreux sentiers.
