Un domaine de la famille de Ghellinck a été acheté par l'Agence Nature et Forêt (2018) afin d'en faire à terme une zone verte publique. Pendant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, un dépôt de munitions était ici, mais celui-ci a été détruit en septembre 1944 et de nombreuses munitions seraient encore présentes dans la forêt. Depuis 1964, l'Université de Gand mène des recherches sur les mésanges dans le domaine, et une colonie de chauves-souris rousses y trouve également son chemin. Des animaux plus grands comme le renard et le chevreuil y sont également parfois aperçus.
