Un dominio della famiglia de Ghellinck è stato acquistato dall'Agenzia Natura e Foreste (2018) per trasformarlo, nel tempo, in una zona verde pubblica. Durante la seconda guerra mondiale qui c'era un deposito di munizioni, ma questo è stato fatto esplodere nel settembre 1944 e molta munizione si troverebbe ancora nella foresta. Nel dominio, dal 1964, l'Università di Gand conduce ricerche sui cinciarelle, e anche una colonia di pipistrelli rossi trova qui la propria strada. Anche animali selvatici più grandi come la volpe e il capriolo sono stati avvistati di tanto in tanto.
