Un dominio de la familia de Ghellinck fue adquirido por la Agencia de Naturaleza y Bosques (2018) para convertir eventualmente una parte en zona verde pública. Durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial, aquí había un depósito de municiones, pero este fue volado en septiembre de 1944 y aún quedaría mucha munición en el bosque. En el dominio, desde 1964, la Universidad de Gante realiza investigaciones sobre carboneros, y también una colonia de murciélagos de orejas rasgadas encuentra su camino aquí. También se han avistado animales más grandes como el zorro y el corzo.
