L'écluse de Lot est l'une des 7 écluses qui font descendre les bateaux d'environ 40 m entre le pied du Plan Incliné de Ronquières et le centre de Bruxelles. Plusieurs dizaines de bateaux y passent chaque jour.
A noter également que le ruisseau appelé le 'Lotbeek' passe d'une rive à l'autre, sous le canal, approximativement sous la porte supérieure de l'écluse. Le Lotbeek poursuit son trajet parallèlement au canal, du centre de Lot à Drogenbos, où il se jette dans la Senne.
