Le nom Parfondruy vient de Porfond Ru qui signifie ruisseau profond (Ruisseau Profond) et fait référence au ruisseau local qui s'enfonce profondément dans la colline.
Lors de la Bataille des Ardennes, le 19 décembre 1944, Parfondruy est le théâtre d'un massacre de villageois. 24 personnes ont été abattues par les troupes allemandes dans un hangar de mitrailleuses. Seul, un jeune enfant de 2 ans est sorti indemne de ce massacre. Le hameau ne comptait que 50 personnes. Un peu plus loin, il y a un monument aux morts.
Il y a aussi la chapelle Sainte-Lucie. La chapelle est dédiée à Lucie de Syracuse, martyre chrétienne décédée au début du IVe siècle et invoquée contre les hémorragies et les maladies des yeux.
