Les habitants de Belsele les appellent les Klokkenlappers. La légende populaire raconte que la cloche de Belsele était fêlée. Un jour, un répareur de chaudières est venu au village en affirmant qu'il pouvait réparer la cloche. Il avait besoin de "nourriture de cloche en or et en argent" pour obtenir un son parfait. Les Belselenaren ont apporté de l'or et de l'argent afin qu'il puisse commencer rapidement. Mais le lendemain, le réparateur de cloches avait disparu.
